Description

This is an outstanding opportunity to take on the leadership of Ofgem, Great Britain’s independent economic regulator and the energy sector’s watchdog, tasked to protect the interests of current and future energy consumers. We are a non-ministerial government department and an independent National Regulatory Authority, recognised by EU Directives.  Reporting into Ofgem’s Chair Martin Cave, you will be joining Ofgem at an exciting period of unprecedented change for the energy sector, which is driven by technological revolution as the sector moves to a more sustainable, low-carbon energy system which will protect the energy consumers of tomorrow. At Ofgem’s core is the overriding purpose of ensuring all consumers receive good value and service from the energy market.  This core purpose is delivered by 800+ talented and committed colleagues operating out of our two offices in London and Glasgow.

Working with our Chair, Board and executive colleagues, you will develop and communicate an inspiring vision and strategy to further Ofgem’s core purpose, championing the interests of consumers and leading and steering the organisation through an exciting innovative, structural and cultural transformation.  With your first-class communication and interpersonal skills, this is a vital role in promoting our work and developing a credible and respected voice for Ofgem that influences and shapes the energy sector’s developments, particularly in technology, digital and cyber security

This is no ordinary Chief Executive appointment and we are seeking an extraordinary individual. Whether your background is in the commercial or public sector, we are looking for an outstanding commercial, entrepreneurial and inclusive leader with a track record of driving innovation, strategic direction, successful stakeholder engagement and business transformation, whilst maintaining efficient financial stewardship.  Politically astute, you will be a visible and motivating leader, exercising diplomacy and sensitivity when required yet willing to challenge the status quo and bring an innovative approach to our work.  As an ambassador for Ofgem and the energy sector. your integrity, standing, judgement and vision will inspire confidence in the regulatory arrangements and hold the respect of our many stakeholders, within the energy sector and beyond.

  2. A Statement of Suitability (no longer than two pages) explaining how you consider your personal skills, qualities and experience provide evidence of your suitability for the role, with particular reference to the criteria in the person specification;
  3. A completed Diversity Monitoring Form.
